20+ Years of journey
This is a fascinating story of how a visit to an Orphanage of abandoned children has been evolved to the existence of Shishu Polli Plus (SPP). It was in 1977, the Trustee Chair of SPP after visiting the orphanage has set-up the UK registered charity to support the work of the Canadian Charity Families to run that orphanage.
Following this, in the early 80s Patricia Kerr, the founder/overseas director of SPP was had been engaged in voluntary work of that orphanage while working at British Airways as a flight attendant. Moved by the plight of the abandoned children and women she and the British Airways colleagues decided to do something to extend help and fundraising. That something over the years has been grown to a thriving learning organization as ShishuPolli Plus with the practice of humanism, secularism and women empowerment. Pat Kerr and her team remain focused on how best to ensure capacity, voice, opportunities and dignity to the beneficiary population using Maslow’s hierarchy of needs as a theoretical base for designing programmes. In this challenging journey commitment from the trustees, funders, donors, partners and the private sector to SPP’s ideas and actions have been instrumental in keeping positive momentum.
